A Peak District Holiday Cottage is ideal if you are a fishing (or walking, cycling, horse riding, golf or other type of) enthusiast requiring natural resources. In this article, let us look at the fishing resources offered by Peak District National Park in Derbyshire. The Peak District National Park is home to numerous water bodies where fish of different varieties flourish.

Historic Home of Fly Fishing

Rivers in the district, the Wye, the Dove, the Lathkill, the Derwent and several others have been famous for fly fishing. There are numerous other water bodies including ponds, lakes, reservoirs and even gravel pits that offer opportunities. You will also be able to do your fishing among some of the finest natural environs at places, as for example along the 15 miles of the river Wye.

The Butterley and Codnor Reservoirs located near Ripley are two other excellent fishing resources, with the former renowned for bream shoals and the latter for very large carp.

Canal fishing is another popular option. There is the Peak Forest Canal in the north of Derbyshire and the Trent and Mersey, and the Erewash canals in the south. Bream, Chub, Perch and Roach abound in the Erewash while Gudgeon is also available at Trent and Mersey.

For example, there are paragliding clubs where you can learn paragliding (akin to flying on your own wings) or go on a gliding trip if you are already an accomplished paraglider.

The walking and traffic-free cycling trails and routes are extensive and you can walk and cycle amidst splendid surroundings. Cycle hire centres abound in the district and you can hire different models of well-maintained equipment from them.
