A Farmhouse Holiday Vacation for Relieving Your Stress
Do vacations really help relieve stress? If they do, how exactly do they do it? We start with these questions before looking at a great farmhouse vacation.
First of all, let us see what vacations provide that we do not get in our daily lives.
Fresh Air
How much fresh air do you get during your daily commute to the workplace or at your house in the suburb? Most likely you might have ceased to notice the quality of the air you get to breathe day in day out. And most likely, you might even have acquired the habit of taking in very little of the air as you breathe.
Fresh air fills your lungs with life-giving oxygen. During a vacation in the countryside, you get the opportunity to clear your lungs of the residues of the smoggy air you had been breathing in the city. The oxygen and the clear lungs cannot but change your mood and can even make your skin glow with health. Just stop now and then to breathe in the air deep.
Letting Things go…
On a typical work day, you are in a rush to get to office by nine in the morning. The pressure to finish all the routines in the short time from waking up to starting for office results in stress. You feel tensed physically and mentally.
During your vacation you can sleep as late as you want, waking up midday and having your breakfast in a leisurely fashion. You can make up the lost time by going to sleep only by midnight. In between, you can spend your time just as you please, wandering around the peaceful scenery or going on a long forest walk or working up a sweat with a cycling tour, for example.
Don’t make the mistake of bringing your work with you to the vacation. If you do, you lose the opportunity to de-stress. Instead, get into the spirit of the countryside. Allow the trees and rivers and birds and the blue sky (or the falling rain) bring you peace and quiet. You will find your stress melting away as you let the sights and sounds around to sink into you.
And the Sun
Another thing you can get in plenty during your countryside or beach vacation is the sun. And sunlight falling on your body can do much for both your mood and health.
A USNews report on Health quotes James Spencer, associate clinical professor of dermatology at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York: “Being out in the sun boosts our mood, improves sleep, and promotes vitamin D production. There’s no controversy about that.” (He does warn that too much sun can cause harm, however.)
Vitamin D has been credited with such benefits as protection “against cancer, bone brittleness, heart disease, and a host of other ills.”
