What kind of experiences can you get from a farm holiday cottage vacation?

First, you get to see a farming community, the community that puts the bread, meat and eggs on our dining tables. You can watch the rolling fields of wheat that end up as bread, the cattle grazing in the vast grasslands and the chicken scratching about the ground or the ducks wading in a pond or river. You can also watch the ground being tilled, wheat being cut, cows being milked and eggs being gathered.

Second, you can absorb the beauty of nature all around you, the vast green grasslands, flowers of brilliant colors and river waters flowing calmly or frothing over the rocks. You can choose to lie on the grass under a tree looking up at the leaves on the tree tops. Or walk along the trails winding across the countryside if that is what takes your fancy.

Third, you can go back in time and see how big lords and small commoners used to live in an earlier era. Most locations will have castles, museums, mills and such attractions that portray life of medieval and later times.

Fourth, you can enjoy modern adventures like paragliding in the vast open spaces offered by the countryside. You are not likely to be able to indulge in these sports in the urban huddle where you might be living.

The Paddock House Farm at Alstonefield in Derbyshire offers several holiday cottages located in Peak District National Park. These cottages offer accommodation to different sized groups from a couple to a group of eight. By booking all the cottages, a largish group of 35 or so can stay close by while enjoying a vacation.

All the cottages are self catering with cooking and dining facilities. Some of the cottages feature outside dining with barbeques and picnic benches.

Located on spacious 35-acre wooded grounds, the cottages provide a feel of country houses and offer great views of surrounding countryside. Many historic attractions such as Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and the Normal Peveril Castle are nearby.
